For racing royalty Kate Waterhouse race days and their glamorous fashion go hand in hand.

Ms Waterhouse was among the cream of Sydney’s fashion set present on Wednesday as the Australian Turf Club showcased its autumn fashions.

“I have very fond memories of going to the races as a little girl, I used to go out with my grandma and she’d host all the owners at the champagne bar and that’s where I’d sit all day while my grandfather and my mum were working,” she said.

“I used to see my mum get ready and I used to see my grandma get ready and just the hats, the outfits, the bag, the shoes.”

Depending on who you ask the most important tip when it comes to putting all those pieces together for autumn racing fashion varies.

For former Miss World Australia Erin Holland the most important thing is to embrace everything about racing fashion.

For Channel 9’s Brooke Boney it’s being comfortable.

For Jesinta Franklin elegance is the key and for My Kitchen Rule’s contestant Romel Kouyan it’s simple” “don’t wear jeans”.

But as the undisputed queen of racing style Ms Waterhouse says the most important thing is to show your personality.

“Dress for your personality I think, it’s a long day out at the races so you want to feel your best,” she told AAP.

“But I think it’s also getting the complete look because there’s not many occasions where you have to dress from head to toe and it’s the hat, the headpiece, the accessories, the outfit, the shoes, often in autumn you need a coat – it’s just thinking of all those elements.”

Among the upcoming racing fashion trends highlighted on Wednesday were statement shoulders, nautical themes, full bodied skirts with lace and bold florals and sharp suit jackets for both genders.

The fashion launch comes ahead of The Championships – Sydney’s grand final of racing – which will kick off this weekend at Randwick with the running of the ATC Derby and The Doncaster Mile and will wrap up on April 13 as champion racehorse Winx has her final run on the Longines Queen Elizabeth Stakes Day.
